Dr. Feelgood
‘Taking No Prisoners (with Gypie 1977-1981)’
*** includes rare & previously unreleased material ***
Release date: 17th June, 2013
A 4CD+DVD newly remastered box set of the four studio albums and two live albums Dr. Feelgood recorded between 1977 and 1981 with ‘Gypie’ Mayo, with added rare and previously unreleased material is set for release on EMI Records on 17th June 2013.
CD1 features the band’s 1977 album Be Seeing You and 1978’s Private Practice, which featured their only ever Top 10 hit, ‘Milk and Alcohol’. This disc also includes the 1979 re-recording of ‘As Long As The Price is Right’ and ‘Down At The (Other) Doctors’, and a previously unreleased demo, recorded at ‘Feelgood’ House, of ‘Riding On The L & N’ which was subsequently recorded for the Let It Roll album.
CD2 features the band’s final two studio albums with Mayo; Let It Roll (1979) and A Chase Of The Shakes (1980). The disc also includes the final Dr Feelgood single for the UA label, ‘Waiting For Saturday Night’ – and b-side ‘Eileen’ - which features Gypie’s replacement, Johnny Guitar.
CD3 is a live disc, which begins with a June 1977 live show at ‘The Paddocks’, Canvey Island of which only two tracks have been previously released (in earlier mixes as 12” B-sides). It was mixed at Abbey Road with Sparko (their bass player) in attendance. The disc also includes the As It Happens live album, originally released in June 1979.
CD4 opens with the four live tracks from the ‘As It Happens’ EP, which came with early copies of the LP, and seven unreleased recordings from the Hemel Hempstead show which did not appear on As It Happens LP and their second live album from this period On The Job (1981).
The DVD features a BBC TV Sight & Sound In Concert, TOTP performances, promotional videos, TV appearances on ‘Alright Now’ and The South Bank Show, and extensive interviews with the producer of the Private Practice album Richard Gottehrer and guitarist John ‘Gypie’ Mayo.
The set is contained in a 7x5 long-form, hardcover package (like the original Wilko set) with a 60+ page colour booklet, which includes 3000+ word sleevenotes written by Will Birch and a full, illustrated discography, sections from tour programmes, a piece on the photographer Keith Morris (whose exceptional photography features both on the cover and throughout the long-form booklet), as well as memorabilia and many previously unseen photographs.
