OUT 23RD FEBRUARY 2018 ON BMG
+ BAND TO TOUR THE UK IN THE SUMMER WITH THE PRETENDERS AND KT TUNSTALL
“Sounding eerily youthful and like they’re having the time of their lives… Joyous” **** Q Magazine?
“The band’s best album in decades” - ‘Album Of The Week’, The Sunday Times
On 23rd February BMG will release SENSE OF DISCOVERY, the second single to be taken from Simple Minds’ new album, WALK BETWEEN WORLDS. The album recently charted at #1 and #4 on the UK Vinyl and UK Album Charts respectively, making it the band’s most successful album in over 20 years.
SENSE OF DISCOVERY follows hot on the heels of Magic, which was A-listed at BBC Radio 2. Like Magic, SENSE OF DISCOVERY is also a song about faith, although that’s where the similarities end. Whereas Magic is about the desire and hunger of youth, SENSE OF DISCOVERY is a more reflective song, centred on the voice of an older narrator passing on wisdom and advice to a younger individual. Featuring a melodic refrain that alludes to 1985’s Alive And Kicking, it perfectly captures the timeless poignancy and maturity of Simple Minds’ songwriting.
WALK BETWEEN WORLDS was produced by Simple Minds with Andy Wright and Gavin Goldberg. It is an album of two distinct sides, very much the old-school album format that singer Jim Kerr and Charlie Burchill grew up with as music fans. In addition to classic Simple Minds anthems and revisiting their new wave roots, the album also explores more cinematic sounds, with the title track and Barrowland Star both featuring dramatic orchestrations recorded at Abbey Road.
In support of the album, last week Simple Minds played three sold-out, very special and rapturously received shows, including a euphoric and emotional night at Barrowland in their hometown of Glasgow. The Guardian described the concert as, “A jumbo-sized celebration of past and present glories…*****.”
In August and September the band will be performing on the GRANDSLAM 2018 tour, playing 13 of the shows with The Pretenders. It will be the first time they’ve played on the same stage since Live Aid – a unique opportunity to see both bands in one night. KT Tunstall will also join them as a very special guest.
