ACCLAIMED 30-PIECE BRASS BAND ANNOUNCE BRAND NEW UK LIVE SHOWS FOR SPRING 2018
Tubular Brass present a mighty double-bill;
‘Prog Brass’ - Prog Rock Classics Performed Live By Tubular Brass + Mike Oldfield’s ‘Tubular Bells’
Arranged and conducted by Sandy Smith
“Absolutely terrific - the most satisfying live musical event I’ve attended in years” - The Arts Desk
Top 25 Albums Of The Year (2017) - The Sunday Times
Tubular Brass follow a year’s worth of completely sold-out live shows (including this month’s Celtic Connections appearance) by announcing a short series of brand new UK live dates for spring 2018.
Tubular Brass – a 30-piece brass band featuring many of the UK’s finest brass players – will present a brand new two part live brass extravaganza at these new dates. The first half of the new show comprises Prog Brass – intriguingly, this set will present brass interpretations of a number of acknowledged prog rock classics from the genres biggest beasts; Yes, Pink Floyd, Genesis, ELP and more. The second half of the show focusses entirely on a live brass rendition of Mike Oldfield’s classic album ‘Tubular Bells’, one of the great icons of electronic music. Released in 1973 and widely known through its use to such chilling effect in William Friedkin’s horror classic The Exorcist, ‘Tubular Bells’ became one of the biggest selling albums of all-time and famously stayed in the UK Album Chart for an incredible 279 weeks. Mike Oldfield and family are great supporters of this show.
Tubular Brass will be presenting a new score for brass of this pioneering sonic masterpiece by acclaimed composer, conductor & arranger Sandy Smith. Sandy’s long list of credits includes orchestrating the brass for the opening ceremony of the 2012 London Olympics.
The show also features specially commissioned audio-visual content by Daniel Conway.
Newly-confirmed UK live performances for spring 2018 are as follows;
7 April Tewkesbury, Gloucs. – Roses Theatre
14 April London, Queen Elizabeth Hall
2 June Newtown, Powys – The Hafren Theatre
NB The London Queen Elizabeth Hall show is billed as ‘Tubular Bells Returns Home to QEH’ as this is the only venue in the world where Mike Oldfield has played the whole album live.
Following their much praised 2017 outdoor appearances at Bluedot Festival (in the shadow of the famous Lovell Telescope at Jodrell Bank) and WOMAD, new 2018 UK summer festival slots are starting to be confirmed, including a highly-prized Saturday main-stage slot at Latitude Festival. The band are also thrilled to confirm that they will be taking their show across the Atlantic and playing their first tour of the USA in early 2019.
Tubular Brass will follow-up their acclaimed eponymously-titled debut album (one of The Sunday Times’ 2017 Top 25 Albums Of The Year & The Arts Desk’s Top 10 Albums Of 2017) with a new second album release, ‘Prog Brass’, due out in summer 2018.
